"Online suddenly stopped working… am I banned?" — Nintendo doesn't tell you directly, so you have to read the symptoms. Here's the checklist.
| Type | Impact | Recovery |
|---|---|---|
| NNID ban | That account's online play blocked | Make a new account |
| Console ban | The whole device blocked from online services | Practically impossible — buy a new console |
| Suspension | 1-30 day timeout | Auto-restored after period |
Home → Nintendo eShop. If it immediately throws "currently unavailable", that's a strong console-ban signal. NNID ban: another account on the same console can still open it.
Try matchmaking in Apex / Splatoon / Smash. Error codes like 2124-XXXX mean ban-related. 2110-XXXX is network-related (transient).
System Settings → Users → Linking → if it shows "Restricted" or "Banned", confirmed.
Common ban codes:
2124-4007 — console ban2124-4025 — NNID ban2124-4508 — temporary suspension2124-5210 — anti-cheat / CFW detectionWhile banned, others can't see your "recent activity" or "now playing". Ask a friend whether they still see your activity.
Switch from Wi-Fi to phone hotspot, retry. Same error → device-side ban confirmed (not a network issue).
Practically irreversible. Nintendo support replies "violated terms of service" and that's that. Options:
Make a fresh NNID. You lose access to eShop purchases tied to the old NNID though. Same console limits new accounts to 1/day typically.
Auto-lifts after the period. Stay quiet during it — disable any CFW/loader meanwhile.
The secretchat.tel loader is designed to run on SysMMC + stock firmware, so following the above keeps you online for the long haul.
